COVID-19 cases are surging in India, where health centers are overwhelmed with the demand for care. They need oxygen and vaccines. They also need clean water. Help us save lives. Help us get water to critical points of care so that frontline staff can care for patients safely and those suffering are assured the most basic tenets of care. Health centers require running water to maintain basic hygiene, keep patients hydrated and ensure doctors and nurses are able to wash hands between patients. That's where you come in. Join me in supporting The Surf Life Saving Foundation (SLSA) as I run my way down the coast of New South Wales. During July and August I will be solo-running 900kms/550mi from Byron Bay to Bondi Beach, with the assistance of a few mates crewing me down the coastline. Depending on the day and terrain, I will be covering 35km/22m per day.  Australia's famous coastline has given so much to me over the years. I have spent hours swimming, training, and patrolling at Bondi Beach and cannot imagine life without ocean swimming. In January 2020 I joined Bondi Surf Bathers Life Saving Club in efforts to become more involved in the community and become a volunteer lifesaver. This has been one of the best aspects to moving to Australia and I have gained so much from this amazing community of people dedicated to keeping our beaches safe; this is my small part in giving back to SLSA and the Bondi community. Your contributions will help in numerous ways, but here are few primary examples: $60 is the cost to give volunteer surf lifesavers the training they need to be proficient in CPR each year. $78 helps towards the cost of equipment to our patrols. $96 gives volunteer surf life savers a vital 3rd day of training each year. $260 is the annual cost of training a surf lifesaver in First Aid & Advanced Resuscitation.

Helping fight the humanitarian crisis in India. India, which hosts 1/6th of the global population, has seen a record number of daily cases and lives lost to Covid-19. It has been reporting 400k new cases every day with more than 3,500 deaths per day in this second wave, figures that are likely being under reported. With 2.4M+ active cases and 180K+ deaths reported as of late April, the COVID resurgence in India has stretched existing medical infrastructure to the breaking point with a shortage of health workers and hospital running out of beds, oxygen supplies, ventilators and anti-viral drugs. The employees of Rabobank and community can donate to the disaster response campaign to benefit responding nonprofits: UNICEF, CARE, Direct Relief, American India Foundation and Path. Rabobank will match eligible donations up to $500 per employee. Please note: donations will be counted toward employees' annual $500 match limit.

While the pandemic is subsiding here in the US, experts expect that India's cases will increase to 500,000/day and will not peak until mid-May. My favorite charity is the Animal Care Society Cork, it will be yours too should you ever get around to visit, their love and dedication to the animals is second to none. Besides "just" running a lot of the daily operation, Albert Kleyn (Director of the ACS) has envisioned many other projects that he'd like to run to improve animal lives all across the county and country. One of those projects was to gift sets of different sized Pet Oxygen Masks to the Cork Fire Brigade so that animals that were exposed to smoke during fires could be adequately treated. As with most charity projects, the biggest issue was funding. Although this one could actually be kick-started with an affordable amount, so I did just that in late 2020 and some of those masks were delivered and handed over in February 2021 https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster/arid-40218257.html County Cork and Ireland are a lot bigger and Fire Brigades around the County need a lot more kits than what I alone (and the VMware matching) could possibly afford. The charity would buy the masks with the ear marked, donated funds. Make sure to donate directly to the charity and then match on brightfunds so that the directly donated money is available immediately. 3. Make sure to ask for the red carry bag as those are sometimes not included with the kit, you might also want to add a slip lead per pack. Also mention the purpose, that the masks will be procured by a charity and gifted to local fire stations. While most veterinarian resellers already operate on thin margins, they might not want to make (much) money on this. 4. Prepare the handover The charity might have some contacts here, maybe contact a local news paper and use that to generate additional funds to try to provide the wider County with mask sets :-).

Our fund is crafted in consultation with Intuitive's India team and our local PAN Asian Intuitive Community ERG with a focus on the desperate shortage of oxygen as well as support for acutely vulnerable populations and providing supplies for medical personnel.
